If hired without certification, certification must be obtained.
within 6 months of hire. Salary will be phased in over one
year: 2/3 of base rate at hire, 100% after six months provided.

HOURS: MONDAY TO FRIDAY – 8:30am – 4:30pm (nights and weekends on an as needed basis.)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License. High school diploma or equivalent required; ICC Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector certification required within 6 months of employment. Ability to understand and carry out written and/or oral instructions. Ability to work with the public efficiently, properly, and pleasantly under all circumstances. Must be able to work with residents/homeowners, interpreting pertinent sections of codes firmly, tactfully, and impartially.
GENERAL DEFINITION: This position involves enforcing Municipal codes and ordinances by performing rental inspections, property transfer inspections, complaint inspections and issuing notices, tickets, and citations for non-compliance. The employee makes periodic investigations of buildings and property in the Municipality, enforcing the requirements of the Municipal Building Safety, Property Maintenance, & Housing Code and investigates, upon request of Municipal officials and the public, any complaint related to Municipal Codes. It involves both clerical work and field inspections. Field inspections of housing & environmental health, building, fire, electrical and other code, and ordinance enforcement as defined in the applicable Municipal Ordinances. Other duties include performing any work, assignments, projects, and tasks as assigned by the Department Head to meet the Departments mission, vision, and goals to increase the health, safety, and welfare in Norristown.
