The Energy Assessor Trainee will work in a dynamic team environment shadowing and assisting an Energy Assessor Lead in data collection of energy efficiency features of residential and/or commercial new construction across Delaware and Pennsylvania. Data collection will be part of two U.S. Department of Energy funded energy efficiency field studies. The goals of these field studies include determining industry standard practice for energy efficiency in new construction and identifying areas for improvement to inform future training, education, and outreach efforts. This position will be for 12 months and is full-time.
Day-to-day responsibilities include:
· Driving throughout Delaware and Pennsylvania, including to urban, suburban, and rural areas, to previously identified active housing development sites.
· Observing and recording data on key energy efficiency items (ex. insulation measures, window U-factors and SHGCs, and lighting efficacy)
· Assisting with blower door and duct leakage testing, including measuring home dimensions, and calculating conditioned floor area and volume
· Recording inspection observations and testing results with photo documentation in a tablet-based app
Need to Have:
· Valid driver’s license
· Vehicle suitable for interstate travel
Nice to Have:
· Experience in data collection
· Experience in the construction trades
· Experience conducting energy audits
· Experience with Excel or data collection software
· Undergoing or completion of a degree in Construction Management or Construction Technologies
· Commitment to meeting deliverables on time.
· Persuasive, outgoing, and comfortable speaking with homebuilders and associated tradespeople.
· Highly motivated
· Works well in a team environment
· Great interpersonal skills
Physical Demands: Occasional use of the computer requires periods of sitting and close audio-visual concentration. The ability to lift 50 pounds and walk through construction sites carrying equipment. Ability to navigate uneven jobsite terrain by foot, climb a 6-foot step ladder, and access crawl spaces. Ability to safely drive for several hours at a time.
Work Environment: Field work is performed both outside and inside of buildings in varying weather conditions. Field work will include accessing attics, basements, crawlspaces, and other locations associated within the built environment. Office work is performed remotely in an open and collaborative environment.
Travel Requirements: Local travel can make up as much 80% of your workday in some cases. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the ability to withstand long car rides. Mileage reimbursement will be provided as applicable.
