JOB DESCRIPTION:

This position fills several needs and roles in the day-to-day operations of the township. This person is responsible for performing duties related to all aspects of fire code and safety within the township. In addition to being trained in conducting fire and life safety inspections and follow ups, this position is trained and qualified to respond to emergency calls throughout the township to assist in daytime response; is trained to conduct or assist cause and origin investigations and respond to fire scenes as requested both during their regular work week and on a stand-by/call-out basis, with emergency responses taking priority over their inspection duties.

An employee in this job performs Ordinance based inspections of buildings, facilities, grounds, and processes to determine conformance with township codes and regulations. As a Fire and Life Safety Inspector, this person will independently perform fire and life safety inspections of non-residential occupancies.

 This position is designed to be a “fire prevention/safety” position and will incorporate its position with assisting the Fire Departments (E.S.O. “Emergency Services Organization”) in emergency responses and not in the administrative workings of each Fire Company.  This position will be available to assist those Fire Companies as needed in various manners.

This employee can comfortably discuss topics such as fire safety, housekeeping, sprinkler systems, and smoke detectors; and research, analyze, and report on topics related to prevention programs; assures completeness of all 3rd party inspections of fire alarm and suppression systems, life safety devices and general-public safety compliance.

QUALIFICATIONS:

•             Minimum Qualifications Required. High School Diploma or GED.

•             Must possess a PA/Pro-Board Fire Inspector I certification (or an equivalent Fire Inspector I certification from another state) or National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Fire International Code Council (ICC) Fire Inspector I certification is desirable.

•             Must possess a PA/Pro-Board Fire Officer I certification or higher.

•             Completion of NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800 prior to appointment.

•             Maintain current training in First Aid or higher, CPR, and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).

•             Experience/training in the fire service, customer service, and public speaking are also highly required.

•             Background to conduct fire prevention inspections, life safety inspections, or inspections in a closely related field.

•             Special Requirements. Must possess a valid CDL Driver’s License. May be required to operate a motor vehicle requiring a valid CDL Driver’s License to travel to inspection sites.

•             Comprehends and interprets local and national fire and life safety codes and standards, as well as blueprints and schematic drawings.
